About Tennessee Receivership Group
Tennessee Receivership Group was created for the purpose of demonstrating the effectiveness of the health and safety receivership remedy for abating nuisance properties in Tennessee—and specifically to demonstrate the potential impact of partial abatement receiverships pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 13-6- 106(h)(2), which had never been tested or applied in the state of Tennessee. TRG is a joint venture between The Works, Inc. and the CRG Foundation, in pursuit of The Works’ nonprofit efforts to remove systematic barriers to revitalizing Memphis neighborhoods and CRGF’s interest in establishing a national charitable foundation to promote the use of receiverships to resolve the complex conditions of substandard properties.
TRG’s initial receivership project was a resounding success, clearly illustrating the applicability of the partial abatement remedy to resolve nuisance property issues. Since its founding in 2019, TRG has been instrumental in the successful abatement of nearly twenty properties and has assisted other receivers with legal representation in additional cases.
Our Mission
To promote the use of receivership as a nuisance abatement remedy for problem properties where traditional strategies have been unsuccessful;
To bring relief to Memphis communities who suffer from the negative effects of nuisance properties;
To find unique solutions that prioritize the people at the heart of each case; and
To exemplify how receivership can be a reliable abatement remedy for communities in need of a solution to nuisance properties.
